The J-Funk site has finally opened. Make sure you check what's up in the world of the J-Funk collective, as our tireless DJ's roam around the country and create positive havoc anywhere they end up. DJ's Chris Robin, Jell-O, kReal, M. Vilenius and Petrus have a combined experience of fortysomething years in the business. Miraculously, none of them are even near forty!
The J-Funk webpage offers you plenty of goodies, such as DJ mixes, photos, news, information about J-Funk's whereabouts plus a host of other exciting features. Black rhythms take over Jazz Bar on the second weekend of September. For Funk’s Sake! sold out last year, leaving over 500 happy festival-goers wanting for more. Due to the success, the programme for this year will be even more versatile; there will be nearly 30 musicians and DJs bringing you a party of strictly funk & soul business!
The headliner for Friday night will be the Helsinki-based retro-soul outfit HUBA, who have performed on the Pori Jazz and Imatra Big Band festivals this year. Saturday night sets you off on a journey to the roots of the New Orleans funk, as THE SENTIMETERS perform a set in the spirit of the black Creol culture.
The most refined funk & soul cover band at the moment is definitely HI-Q, with vocalist Heini Ikonen, and they will be setting the mood for early Friday night. The For Funk’s Sake! DJs RELUKTANT (Organic / UK) and ESKO ROUTAMAA (Tku) will provide the musical backbone for both nights with their undisputed skills behind the turntables.
